I took a class on Skillshare by Lisa Congdon. It was the first time I took a class on Skillshare and what I really liked (except Lisa Congdon’s content) was the ability to speed up the videos. You can 1.25x, 1.5x and 2x the videos. (You can even go slower and 0.5x them.)
I generally find video watching a drag. 15 minutes is about my daily limit. It doesn’t matter how entertaining the videos are (Proko’s videos tend to be quite funny as an example). After 15 minutes of watching a screen, I typically want to do something else.
With the ability to speed up the videos up, however, I notice I can stick to it much longer. It feels more effective and you can get through the slower paced parts at a faster pace. And if I need to note some important points or finish up a drawing, then there is always the pause button.
I made a google search for, you guessed it, “how to speed up Vimeo videos”. And lo and behold, there is a neat little Chrome plugin that helps you do just that.
So now I’m watching through Aaron Blaise’s awesome Character Design Course at 1.6 speed. After some testing, 1.6x is what seemed to work best for me. And watching course videos is no more a drag.
